Daytona Beach, FLYes, Tom Curren will be here, and he'll be playing a set with his son, Pat, on Saturday night, November 16th. There. We can't believe we can type that... We also have a fantastic new film with Tom that you'll read about later. Now, to the regularly scheduled news...

The fourth and final event of the 2024 Florida Surf Film Festival, presented by Monster Energy and in partnership with Daytona State College, goes live November 15th and 16th at the News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach.  Doors open each night at 5PM with movies starting promptly at 6PM.  Passes are available now and annual Green Room memberships are also available (twelve month rolling membership), which include a custom FSFF YETI tumbler, official 2024 FSFF t-shirt, a meal ticket and two drink tickets for each event, posters for each event, and more.

Friday night will kick off with The Search for Volcano Island from veteran Ben Weiland and The Allen Sarlo 8mm Time Capsule from Allen himself (in attendance) and Justin Jarchow-Misch. In Volcano Island, five brothers hitch a ride through the Aleutians and voyage into a mysterious region in pursuit of a dream.  Set to an original soundtrack from Matt Costa, you’ll want to be there early on Friday to take it in.  Allen Sarlo, with his Super 8 footage from the 70’s including Venice, POP, and the North Shore, narrates a beautifully restored ride down memory lane with a Q and A as well.

Friday night will conclude with the USA Premiere of Jamie Brisick (in attendance) and Alan White’s long-anticipated The Life and Death of Westerly Windina, which tells the story of Australia’s 70’s surf icon, Peter Drouyn; he was a visionary in the surf and a larger-than-life personality out of the water, but his transformation to Westerly Windina was to be his greatest realization of self.  A Q & A with Jamie will follow.  This film addresses adult topics and is a rated-R equivalent.  It also deals with issues of gender transition and human sexuality that some audience members may find uncomfortable.

Saturday night kicks off with a couple short films, Orion and Changing Tempo from Shan Canuel and the NOW NOW media team of Will Bendix and Alan Van Gysen, respectively. Tempo is their third film to be selected and follows Mikey February’s journey from competitor to one of the most versatile and admired free surfers.  Next up, Creatures of Habit from Nate Laverty presents a fresh perspective on the beauty and dedication of surfing in the unpredictable setting around Vancouver Island, Canada.  The film also features Central Floridian, Ryan Huckabee, who will be in attendance.

The 2024 Florida Surf Film Festival will conclude on Saturday with the East Coast Premiere of Nilton Baptista and Jeremy Pfeiffer’s (both in attendance) Tom and I, sharing the unexpected friendship between surf icon and three-time world champion, Tom Curren, and videographer, Masahito Kito, one with a board and the other with a camera. The duo captured the heart of Tom’s career and his later exploits.  Tom and his son Pat will be in attendance for a live musical performance immediately following the film with a Q and A to follow. This once in a lifetime event doesn’t begin to describe how special this night will be, and there will surely be a few other world champs in the house for the show.

We look forward to seeing everyone on November 15th and 16th. These are our expected showtimes:
